Alcohol Induced Psychosis

Alcohol Induced Psychosis.

simplistically speaking psychosis due to alcohol is a mental condition where touch with reality is compromised by delusion and or hallucination. The psychotic episode occurs during alcohol intoxication or withdrawal from it. Not everyone who drinks alcohol will develop alcohol induced psychosis. This mental condition affects close to 4% of people who are dependent on alcohol.
A rare form of alcohol psychosis is called idiosyncratic intoxication.
This occurs when a small amount alcohol causes severe reaction and intoxication. People experiencing this form of alcohol intoxication become aggressive, develop hallucinations and delusions.
After the period of intoxication elapses, the individual becomes amnesic for what occurred during the psychosis.
I have witnessed this form of alcohol intoxication during my medical school year in the former USSR.
